For Kate Middleton, royal life isn’t always as easygoing and effortless as it seems. During a reception tied to Queen Elizabeth II’s milestone birthday at Buckingham Palace, the Princess of Wales candidly admitted that she finds these large, high-energy royal environments “really hard.”
The beloved Princess of Wales also opened up about what exactly makes these events so testing and taxing for her.

During Queen Elizabeth’s 100th birthday celebration reception at Buckingham Palace, the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, opened up. She shared her frank views, while speaking to a small group of women, about why she really finds these crowded royal events extremely hard. While discussing these hardships, she explained, “I find these environments are really hard.”

But that’s not all, Middleton also joked about being told to “speak up a bit louder,” as the rest of the reception buzzed as per usual. In some fan footage, which was shared to X (formerly Twitter), this interaction was clearly audible. Her sweetness and honesty made her struggle seem far more human and, of course, extremely relatable.
The Princess of Wales’ latest reflection that she has “a very soft voice” follows a previous comment she made about the royal rule she has trouble following.
For the uninformed, the Princess of Wales and her husband William, King Charles, Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, were at Buckingham Palace for a bash celebrating the late Queen’s life and legacy. The event also included representatives from a selection of the late Queen’s patronages, and centenarians also born on April 21, 1926, sharing a 100th birthday with the iconic monarch.
