The team is on the trail of Jenna Wells (Eliza Coupe), a.k.a. the "Killer Chemist," who they follow to a gala. The high society event is hosted by James Whitmore (Daniel Kash) of Whitmore Pharmaceutics, the company that had been experimenting on the inmates at the Pit.

After Jenna spikes the drinks of all the event attendees, she and James are the only ones left standing. Bex and her teammates — Shane Florence (Josh McKenzie) and Jacob Hassani (Patrick Sabongui) — then arrive at the scene, but after a tense standoff, James is killed and Hassani is shot.

In the chaos, Jenna escapes, and the the task force's failure leads Attorney General Elizabeth Mallory (Zabryna Guevara) to shut them down "effective immediately."

Jenna arrives at the team's command center, and holds Bex's former FBI partner, Oliver Odell (Nick Wechsler), at gunpoint. Bex follows Jenna, and after a dramatic confrontation, Jenna is shot and killed by Shane.

After sharing a brief emotional moment, Oliver begins to bleed from his nose and collapses, with Bex realizing that Jenna attached a poison patch onto the back of Oliver's neck while she had him at gunpoint.

Bex tells Shane to get help as she holds Oliver in her arms and confesses her feelings for him.

Throughout the first season, task force member Shane, who is an officer at the Pit, had been searching for his biological mother.

Using voice-recognition software, it was revealed that Shane's mom is Colonel Eve Lazarus (Kari Matchett).

In another twist, Eve is shown to have a barcode tattoo on the bottom of her foot, which means that she was an inmate at the Pit, who "graduated" from the program.

What happened to Hassani’s wife?

In the season 1 finale, it is revealed that Hassani's wife has been dead for two years, and he has been a single father during his time on the task force.

"We get a little bit of insight in that finale episode about his wife, so that opens up a whole bunch of questions about his children," Sabongui told NBC Insider in April 2025.

He continued, "Are they back in D.C.? How good of a father can he actually be if we're watching him all day, every day, on these planes, and he's in different states chasing bad guys? And how does that land on him?"

Just some of the many questions that need to be answered in The Hunting Party season 2.
