- Jessica Chastain says her long-postponed Apple TV miniseries *The Savant *is finally being released.

- "Before it was like, 'I don't know if we're going to see it,' but now I can say, 'We're going to see it,'" she told *Variety *on Saturday.

- The series, which follows an investigator's infiltration of online extremist communities, was delayed days after the September killing of controversial conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Jessica Chastain's long-delayed *The Savant *will finally see the light of day.

The Oscar-winning actress stars in the miniseries from Canadian playwright Melissa James Gibson, which follows an investigator who goes undercover to infiltrate online spaces dedicated to extremist hate groups. It should have been out for months now, but was delayed days before its September premiere in the wake of the killing of right-wing podcaster Charlie Kirk.

"Before it was like, 'I don't know if we're going to see it,' but now I can say, 'We're going to see it,'" Chastain told *Variety*'s Marc Malkin on the red carpet outside the 2026 Breakthrough Prize ceremony in Santa Monica, Calif., on Saturday.

Chastain joked that it had been so long since she and the veteran red carpet reporter talked about the postponed project, that she doesn't even look the same now that it's being released: "I didn't have a bob back then!"

*The Savant *was officially postponed on Sept. 23, the Tuesday before its slated Friday premiere of Sept. 26.

"After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone *The Savant*. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date," a spokesperson for Apple TV announced in a statement shared with EW at the time.

Though the streamer did not explicitly link the delay to Kirk's killing, news of his public assassination on Sept. 10 dominated discourse for weeks after. A large-scale hunt for his killer immediately ensued, resulting in the individual accused of the crime, Tyler Robinson, being apprehended less than 36 hours later.

Robinson is currently on trial in Utah for charges including aggravated murder, felony use of a firearm, obstruction of justice, and witness tampering. He has not yet entered pleas for the charges.

*The Savant *is based on a 2019 article published in *Cosmopolitan** *called "Is It Possible to Stop a Mass Shooting Before It Happens?"

Written by Andrea Stanley, the article tells the story of an anonymous investigator known only as "The Savant," who works closely with the Anti-Defamation League to infiltrate online communities to de-escalate "angry young men" who have gotten radicalized and intend to perpetrate acts of mass violence.

Chastain weighed in on *The Savant*'s postponement the day after it was announced.

"I want to say how much I value my partnership with Apple," she said, before noting that she and the company were "not aligned on the decision to pause the release of *The Savant*."

The actress explained, "In the last five years since we've been making the show, we've seen an unfortunate amount of violence in the United States," before listing off several high-profile incidents of political violence. "I've never shied away from difficult subjects, and while I wish this show wasn't so relevant, unfortunately it is. *The Savant* is about the heroes who work every day to stop violence before it happens, and honoring their courage feels more urgent than ever."
