Sam Asghari shared his reaction to Britney Spears' decision to enter a treatment facility.

On Thursday, April 23, the model and fitness trainer spoke to TMZ about his ex-wife's choice to voluntarily check herself into a treatment facility after she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol (DUI) in March.

"I think it's great," Asghari, 32, told the outlet. "I think anything that has anything to do with healing and great things.

He added, "And as long as the person is in charge of that, it's all great."

The Tehran-born Asghari was then asked if he had been in touch with Spears, 44, since entering the facility, to which he replied he hadn't.

During an interview with Fox News in March, The Traitors star shared his reaction to his ex-wife's arrest two days prior.

"When it comes to people making mistakes, I understand that," he said at the time, adding that he had been focused primarily on the ongoing Iran war.

Added Asghari of the Grammy-winning singer, "I think that everyone deserves privacy. And I hope the press has learned from the past, that they give her the privacy that she needs."

On April 12, a rep for Spears confirmed to PEOPLE that she had voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility.

Spears was arrested on suspicion of a DUI on March 4. The next day, she was released, and a rep for the "Gimme More" artist told PEOPLE in a statement that the "unfortunate incident" was "completely inexcusable."

"Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time," the statement read.

It continued, "Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being."

In 2016, Spears and Asghari began dating and married in June 2022. They separated in July 2023. In May 2024, a judge with the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County signed off on their divorce.

A source told PEOPLE at the time that "the divorce was amicable and the prenup was not challenged."

"Britney is continuing to flex her freedom and is moving on," the source added.

In the months following their split, Asghari told PEOPLE he considered his time with Spears "a blessing."

“It was a blessing to be able to share life with someone for a long time,” he said in a March 2024 interview. “And people grow apart and people move on."

Asghari continued, "I've always hated people leaving a certain relationship — and at some point they told each other they love each other and they sat at the same table and ate food [together] — so I never understood when people part ways [and] they talk badly about each other."
